Easter results

Two Irish players made norms at the recent Easter tournaments in Dublin, winning their sections in the process. IM Alex Lopez made a GM norm. After starting somewhat slowly he won his last 5(!) games to win the tournament and make a norm. A little bit reminiscent of his performance in the Irish Championships last year when he won his last 4 games to tie for first. In the IM tournament FM Conor O’Donnell made an IM norm and won the tournament. Details at chess results and the ICU site.

The Munster Championships and Joe Browne Cup are taking place in the West County Hotel this weekend. Yours truly leads on 3 from 3 in a somewhat smaller than usual Senior Section. The Irish Rapid and Blitz championships are on this weekend in Dublin. Maxime LaGarde beat 3 FMs and an IM on his way to first place with 7 from 7, Conor O’Donnell finished second and there was a 3 way tie in third back to fifth between Valdes, Li and Delaney. The blitz is on tomorrow.

Miron wins Ennis Open

Lucian Miron won the Ennis Open for a second year in the row. He coasted home fairly comfortably in the end, 5 wins in a row meant a last round draw was all that was needed to take first place. Daniel Hristodorescu and Colm Daly tied for second/third.
