Munster Junior Championships Results

John Alfred has sent me a lovely report on the recent Munster Junior Championships including crosstables for each section and loads of photos. Unfortunately it’s in pdf format and 10 pages long so I will have to give a severely shortened version. Maybe John can provide a way of linking to the uploaded pdf which I would be more than happy to do.

The Munster Junior Chess Championships were held in the Absolute Hotel, Sir Harrys Mall, Limerick on the weekend of the 28th and 29th January. Age bands advertised were u8, u10, u12, u14, u16 and u18. In a new step Girl Champion titles were introduced at u12, u14, u16 and u18 level with supporting shields. There were no entries in the u18 section and no girls entered the u16. Overall up to 80 players took part. This years committee consisted of Stephen Danaher, John Alfred and John Cassidy.

The Mulcahy also took place last weekend and was won by Arnaud Aoustin following a blitz playoff with Kieran O Riordan. Henk de Jonge came third. Results and pictures on the Cork club website.

I dont know the results yet of the Gonzaga tournament but going by the 3 boards broadcast on the Sunday it looks like David Fitzsimons won the tournament with Bartolmiej Cichonski in second and third Carl Jackson and Rory Delaney. Please treat these results with caution, I am only surmising!
